Staying at Camp Rockaway was magical. The owners and caretakers were so friendly and helpful and without their recommendations we wouldn’t have discovered how incredible the Rockaways are… Can’t wait to go back!.

My stay at Camp Rockaway was INCREDIBLE. We rented out the whole campground for a friends and family beach weekend and I am so glad we did. The tents are amazing and so comfortable. The staff is incredibly helpful…

My wife and I had a fantastic experience at Camp Rockaway! The atmosphere is fun and relaxing, we were welcomed like family. Sophie gave us all the best tips and local secrets. Tents were clean and comfortable.

We spent a night here over Memorial Day weekend. The owners were very nice. We cooked burgers on the community grill. The bathrooms were clean and the showers were nice and hot. There is a playground for children a two minute walk away.

    things to know:

Dates. May 28th – September 8th (with a possible extension through early October. Please sign up for our mailing list here to stay in the loop.)

Check In. Check in starts at 3pm and check out is by 11am. Please check in by entering the campground from the Empire State Trail / Old Champlain Canal Towpath located on the south side of the lock. If you are not able to check in during these hours it is important that you call the front desk at (518) 203-1269 so we can greet you upon arrival and check you in.

Cancellation Policy. Camping is rain or shine – we embrace the elements. We offer a credit towards a future stay for bookings cancelled up to 24 hours prior to arrival. If cancelled later or in case of a no-show, 100% of the booking fee will be charged.

Children. We welcome families and look forward to having you and your children camp with us.

Each glamping site includes two furnished tents – a safari-style tent with a queen bed, and a teepee-style “pup” tent with two cots. Pup tents are intended for families or pods. Maximum 2 kids per pup tent. Pup tents must be rented with wall tents and cannot be rented individually. Please find a site diagram and a campground map here.

If your child will sleep in the tent with you and requires a cot (the camping version of a roll-away), they can be rented for an additional $50. Cots come with a sleeping bag, sleeping bag liner and pillow. Please include a note in your reservation that you would like to rent a cot as there is not a specific add on for this in the reservation window.

Please note that quiet hours for everyone are from 10pm until 8am.

Transportation. Our campground is just outside of Saratoga Springs in Schuylerville, NY. We are located on the south side of Champlain Canal Lock C-5. See detailed directions.

Parking. Parking is located in the parking lot directly across the street. Camp Rockaway will provide you with a parking pass. Please display this prominently on your dashboard. Please DO NOT park alongside Rt.42.

Bicycles. If you are bringing your bicycle, please be sure to bring a lock as well.

Water/Sustainability. In an effort to keep Camp Rockaway’s environmental impact to a minimum, we do not sell bottled water. Filtered water is available. We encourage you to bring your own water bottle. If you do not have a bottle (or if you forget to bring one), we have bottles available for purchase at the camp store.

Campfires. Camp Rockaway staff will keep our communal fire pit blazing throughout the evening.

Bugs. Camp Rockaway has insect repellent and bite relief products available for purchase.

Weather. Because of our proximity to the water, the weather is often cooler than you might expect, especially at night and in the morning. We recommend packing a pair of pants and a sweatshirt.

Bathrooms: Restrooms and showers are conveniently located within the campground. The showers have hot water, and there is a sink with non-potable water. Water conservation is a key component of Camp Rockaway’s commitment to the environment – we encourage campers to keep showers brief. All restrooms and showers are unisex.

Food: If you’d like to cook out our fire pit has a grill and may be used in the evenings. We recommend bringing food that is already prepared and does not require water. There is no refrigeration, and there are no facilities for washing dishes. We recommend bringing a cooler, tupperware for uneaten food, additional containers or plastic bags for used cooking utensils. Guests must store all food in their car or in their tent.

If you’re not interested in cooking, please see the “explore” section of our website for recommendations on where to eat and drink nearby. The village of Schuylerville is less than a mile from the campground and is easily accessible by car, bike and by walking.

Friends and visitors. If you’re staying with us overnight and would like to show your friends the campground, please do – we’d love to meet them. However, visits from outside parties must be brief (5 min), and we can’t extend the use of our hammocks, bathrooms and showers. The good news is public spaces are close, as are the village and all of the destinations listed in the “explore” section of our website.

Power/Connectivity. WiFi is available throughout the campground. A charging station is located in our common tent.

Safety/Security. The campground is staffed 24/7

Pets. For the safety and security of all our guests pets are not allowed in the campground at any time.

    things to bring:

Water Bottles. As just one small way we try to keep our environmental impact to a minimum, we do not sell bottled water — so be sure to bring your own bottles. Water is available on site.

Hat, Sunscreen and Bug Spray. Encouraged for all campers.

Beach Towel. Camp Rockaway provides towels for use in the shower facilities only. Please bring a beach towel for your excursions out on the water.

Layers. A long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, long pants, socks, and a hat should keep you comfortable. (It can be chilly near the water, especially at night.)

Shoes. Closed-toed, hard-soled shoes in addition to sandals.

Life Jackets. Water based recreation is plentiful along the river and the canal. If you plan to rent a kayak, please bring a life jacket.
